I just aquired a model 1896 krag carbine from my sister. After my father passed away she laid claim to it but she got hard up for cash last week and I bought it from her for 200 bucks. The wood is excellent and the blueing is about 99 percent. The barrel looks dirty but the rifleing is in great shape. I have never shot it but I can't imagine that it is very accurate with the peep mounted to the bolt like that. I know that my dad bought it at a flea market back in the 80's for 150 bucks. I'll try to post a few pics soon and show you what it looks like.
